While the poker tables are quiet for now, Casino Montreal is finding a new way to deal a winning hand—this time to the local community.

Although the casino remains closed to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions, its professional kitchens are in full swing. In a powerful show of community support, Casino Montreal has joined forces with the Les Cuisines Solidaires Project to help those facing food insecurity amid the pandemic.

The initiative will see casino chefs prepare an impressive 35,000 meals in just one week, all of which will be distributed to individuals and families in need across Quebec. With more Canadians relying on food banks during the nationwide economic downturn, this project arrives at a crucial time.

A Poker Hotspot With a Heart

Casino Montreal isn’t just known for its gourmet cuisine—it’s also a favorite destination for poker players, especially younger Americans. With Quebec’s legal gambling age set at 18, the city attracts players looking for live poker action just a few hours north of the U.S. border.

The casino’s 24/7 poker room, featuring 24 No-Limit tables, is well known among local and international players alike. However, with operations paused, the focus has shifted from the felt to the kitchen—offering a different kind of support to the community.

Playground Poker Club Also on Pause

Just a short drive from Casino Montreal, Playground Poker Club is another major hub for poker enthusiasts. The venue boasts over 70 poker tables and has hosted some of the biggest events in North American poker, including the award-winning MILLIONS North America tournament.

But like Casino Montreal, Playground has also shuttered its doors temporarily to prioritize health and safety. There is currently no timeline for reopening, leaving poker players eager but understanding as the city continues to prioritize public health.
