Long-time poker pro Steve O’Dwyer has once again proven his elite status in the world of online poker, emerging victorious in one of the biggest events of the 2020 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP).

Launched in late April, SCOOP 2020 features 240 events and $85 million in guaranteed prize money, making it one of the most prestigious online tournament series of the year. With the final day set for May 19, the festival is nearing its grand finale — and O’Dwyer has already made headlines by claiming the title in the $25,000 buy-in Eight-Max No-Limit Hold’em Super High Roller.

A Star-Studded Field

The Super High Roller attracted 89 entries, generating a prize pool of $2,182,725. O’Dwyer, playing under the screen name “Mr. Tim Caum”, walked away with the top prize of $521,598.

The event saw no shortage of poker’s elite. Among the finalists were Andras “probirs” Nemeth, Samuel “€urop€an” Vousden, Ben “Sauce123” Sulsky, and Fedor “CrownUpGuy” Holz, a World Series of Poker bracelet winner.

Interestingly, it wasn’t a smooth ride to victory for O’Dwyer. Heading into the final stretch, Nemeth held the chip lead, while O’Dwyer and Vousden sat with the shortest stacks. Vousden would be eliminated shortly after the bubble burst, and Holz finished in eighth place.

The Final Showdown

The tournament culminated in a heads-up battle between O’Dwyer and Nemeth. With Nemeth holding twice the chips, the momentum seemed in his favor. But O’Dwyer, known for his calm under pressure and strategic depth, battled back, gradually evening out the stacks.

The pivotal moment came during the final hand. O’Dwyer went all-in and managed to crack Nemeth’s Ace-King with a dramatic river card, securing the win and yet another major title in his illustrious poker career.
