As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact communities across the U.S., the poker world is stepping up once again to support relief efforts. The World Poker Tour (WPT) has teamed up with Budweiser for a new televised charity tournament benefitting the World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit founded by celebrity chef and humanitarian José Andrés.

The King’s Celebrity Poker Challenge on ClubWPT

Dubbed “The King’s Celebrity Poker Challenge”, this special event will take place on ClubWPT, the WPT’s official online poker platform. The event promises both entertainment and philanthropy, bringing together a diverse group of celebrities, athletes, and philanthropists—all playing for a cause.

The first episode will feature an exciting lineup, including:

  • Chef José Andrés – Founder of World Central Kitchen

  • Pau Gasol – NBA legend and global ambassador

  • Jon Hamm – Emmy-winning actor from Mad Men

  • Jason Alexander – Actor and comedian (Seinfeld)

  • Kevin Pollak – Actor and comedian

  • Kelly Slater – 11-time world surfing champion

Each player will compete from home, seated virtually at the ClubWPT tables, with the entire event filmed and set to air on national television.

Big Donations for a Big Cause

As part of the event, Budweiser will contribute $15,000 on behalf of each of the six players, totaling $90,000. An additional $35,000 will be awarded to the winner’s charity of choice—bringing the grand total donation to $125,000, all going directly to World Central Kitchen.

Founded in 2010 by Chef Andrés, World Central Kitchen has provided millions of meals to people affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises, including the Haiti earthquake, Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, and California wildfires. In recent months, their focus has shifted to feeding families in need during the coronavirus pandemic, establishing food relief programs in cities across the U.S.

A Community United by Cards and Compassion

The WPT and Budweiser’s collaboration represents the latest in a growing number of poker-based charity initiatives since the pandemic began. From high-stakes online tournaments to star-studded virtual showdowns, the poker community continues to use its platform to raise funds and awareness for those most affected by the crisis.

Whether you’re a poker fan or just tuning in for the celebrity fun, The King’s Celebrity Poker Challenge is sure to deliver both heart and high-stakes drama—for a great cause.
