WPT Season Opener Kicks Off at Thunder Valley with an Epic Top Gun Video

(User Rating 1/5)

Thunder Valley Resort in Northern California set the stage for an unforgettable World Poker Tour (WPT) season opener as the Rolling Thunder event took off in style. The poker room was transformed into a vibrant, high-energy environment, reminiscent of an action-packed movie scene, featuring a Top Gun homage video, smoke machines, and a mock explosion to get the crowd hyped up for the $3,500 Main Event.

The Setup: A Grand Opening

The excitement began on Friday, a day before the Main Event, when the tournament staff dressed in costume for Day 2 of the “Leaning Tower of Chips” event. Without any color-ups, the players’ chip stacks grew significantly, resulting in massive “leaning” stacks that added to the drama of the event.

To top it off, the staff went all out, providing boxes of pizza to the players while fully embracing the theme of the day. It was a party atmosphere, with plenty of fun and entertainment before the Main Event even began.

The Payoff: Top Gun Video Hits the Big Screen

As players gathered for the Main Event, no one was sure what to expect. Intense music filled the room, building suspense, and then it happened—every screen in the casino lit up with a Top Gun-inspired video that set the tone for the event.

The video, which included appearances from WPT Executive Tour Director Matt Savage, Tournament Directors Jordan Cutter and Justin Hammer, and Thunder Valley Director of Poker Operations Ben Erwin, was designed to make the introduction extra special. Erwin’s inspiration for the video came from this classic Top Gun clip.
