🎥 Watch! Doug Polk Breaks Down Key Hands vs. Terrance Reid

★☆☆☆☆

(User Rating 1/5)

When you agree to face Doug Polk in a heads-up match at his Texas card room, The Lodge, you’re signing up for three things: high-stakes action, brutal honesty, and the possibility of your hands getting dissected in front of hundreds of thousands on YouTube.

That’s exactly what happened last week when PokerOrg’s own Terrance “TJ” Reid stepped under the lights for a $25/$50 heads-up cash game with a $10,000 buy-in.

Now, Doug has dropped his analysis of some of the match’s biggest hands—and, true to form, he’s not pulling punches. Catch the full video above, or check out some highlights below.

🔥 Early Clash: Pair vs. Pair

One of the first big hands saw both players pick up pocket pairs.

  • Doug: Raises to $125 on the button with A♠ A♣

  • TJ: 3-bets to $450 with 7♥ 7♦

  • Doug: 4-bets to $1,300

  • TJ: Calls

Doug explains in the video:

“I don’t really like to trap aces all that often. When you’re deep-stacked, you want to get money in. Aces prefer to raise, not trap.”

For TJ, he adds:

“You really don’t fold pocket pairs when you 3-bet them heads-up. Once you 3-bet and face a 4-bet, you either call or jam. Mostly call.”

💥 Flop: 9♠ 5♥ 4♠

With $2,600 in the middle:

  • TJ checks

  • Doug bets $525

  • TJ calls

Doug’s take:

“This board hits both ranges fairly well, so you should build in some checks here. But when you have black aces, which don’t block flush draws, betting is solid.”

He warns that betting here can attract more check-raises than expected, due to the number of draws and top pairs in TJ’s range. Still, Polk justifies his bet sizing and aggression with such a strong hand.

🧱 Turn: 8♦

  • TJ checks

  • Doug bets $1,600

  • TJ calls again

Doug explains the logic:

“You want to use a geometric sizing that sets up a reasonable river jam. $1,600 does that well. For TJ, calling with pocket 7s is tough, especially without blocking flush draws. But folding might be too tight.”

Doug highlights how important it is to defend your range, even in difficult spots, to avoid getting exploited by frequent bluffers.

🎬 River?

We won’t spoil what came next—you’ll need to watch the video for that. But one thing’s for sure: TJ needed one of the two remaining sevens… or for Polk to make a rare mistake.

🧠 Free Lessons from a Master

Though TJ reportedly finished the session down a bit, he bounced back the next day in a ring game—and walked away with a valuable experience under his belt.

Facing one of the sharpest poker minds in the game is never easy, but having your hands analyzed by Doug Polk? That’s a free masterclass you can’t put a price on.
