A5 Labs, a competitive games and platform provider, has chosen GeoComply to assist WPT Global in enhancing its international operations. GeoComply, a leading provider of geolocation, fraud detection, and risk services, will offer its expertise to support WPT Global‘s ongoing growth and expansion in the online poker market.

GeoComply’s Role in WPT Global’s Growth

GeoComply will supply WPT Global with a comprehensive suite of fraud detection and prevention tools, ensuring that fraudulent players are identified and prevented from accessing the platform. Additionally, GeoComply’s compliance-grade geolocation services will block players from regions where participation is restricted or sanctioned, strengthening the platform’s integrity and trustworthiness.

WPT Global, which launched its online poker platform in May 2022, has since expanded its reach to over 50 countries, attracting an average of 15,000 daily active users. The collaboration with GeoComply will provide additional layers of security to ensure the platform maintains a safe environment for legitimate players.

A5 Labs’ Focus on Anti-Cheating and Data Science

A5 Labs has heavily invested in machine learning and data science to create a secure and fair online poker experience. Their approach focuses on combating cheating and safeguarding player trust by leveraging advanced technology.

In July 2022, A5 Labs released a white paper titled “Advanced Technologies for Secure, Fair, and Fun Online Poker,” which discusses the impact of cheating on poker players and provides solutions using blockchain and NFTs. A5’s goal is to help operators adapt to technological advancements, fostering a safer and more secure online gaming environment.

Fighting Cheating in Online Poker

Online poker has been plagued by cheaters since its inception, and despite technological advances, the issue persists. A5 Labs, led by John Andress (Head of Security) and Thanh Tran, is focused on improving game security by addressing the “cat-and-mouse” nature of cheating.

John Andress, a former professional poker player, joined A5 Labs to apply his expertise in machine learning and data science to poker security. He emphasized that A5’s approach goes beyond typical software risk detection. They analyze player decision-making, comparing actions to professional players’ data to detect unusual patterns that might indicate cheating. If any suspicious behavior is detected, those players are denied access to the platform.

The Role of GeoComply in the Fight Against Cheating

GeoComply’s tools provide the necessary geolocation context to ensure that players are where they claim to be, preventing cheaters from using fake locations or software to bypass security measures. By integrating GeoComply’s geolocation services, A5 Labs can verify players’ locations and identify suspicious activity, making it harder for cheaters to operate on the platform.

As Andress explained, “GeoComply ensures we can verify players’ location and have a complete understanding of their network behavior. This ability to understand where players are limits cheaters’ ability to centralize and create fake players in any region.” With these tools, players who trigger security flags are stopped before they can even access the platform.

Through this partnership with GeoComply, A5 Labs and WPT Global aim to set new standards for online poker security, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all players.
