The third Galfond Challenge is proving once again why Phil Galfond is considered one of the all-time greats in Pot-Limit Omaha.
After a brief pause to take on Dan “Jungleman” Cates in a mini-challenge, Phil Galfond returned to his high-stakes battle against online PLO pro ActionFreak, and the results continue to favor the seasoned pro. In their seventh session, Galfond added another $23,857 to his overall lead, bringing his total advantage to $266,769 after 4,821 hands.
Stakes, Format & Streaming
The challenge is being played at $150/€300 ($163/$325 USD) stakes of Pot-Limit Omaha, with a planned total of 15,000 hands. The entire showdown is streamed live on Galfond’s Run It Once Poker Twitch channel, giving fans front-row seats to some of the highest-level PLO ever played online.
In their latest session, the pair played 741 hands, during which Galfond earned $21,808, building back momentum after a previous losing session that marked the first time they played on a different online poker site. Galfond later noted that “a change of environment can act like a mental reset,” helping players refocus—and clearly, the strategy worked.
Big Hands & Even Bigger Action
While Galfond emerged as the session winner, it wasn’t without some fireworks from ActionFreak. The very first all-in pot of the day reached a massive $69,528, and ActionFreak came out on top. Later, he snap-called a river bet holding quad aces, scoring another $68,624 pot.
Despite losing several marquee hands, Galfond’s experience and composure helped him claw back the value through a series of strong plays, resulting in another profitable day at the virtual felt.
What’s Next?
With nearly one-third of the 15,000-hand challenge completed, Galfond’s edge is undeniable—but in Pot-Limit Omaha, momentum can swing in a single session. The next round of action is set for today, and fans can continue watching live on Twitch.
Stay tuned for more updates from what’s quickly becoming one of the most entertaining poker duels of the year.
