Nick Eastwood, an ambassador for 888poker, shares an insightful and personal account of his experiences attending poker events across the globe, particularly focusing on his time at the UK Poker League (UKPL) tour stop in Manchester. Eastwood, who has been creating content for 888poker for almost three years, openly discusses his journey in live poker, his struggles to achieve a deep run in tournaments, and an inspiring “miracle” story he witnessed during the event.
The Monkey on Nick’s Back
Eastwood has always been a cash game player, and although he loves the thrill of tournaments, his experiences at these live events haven’t been as successful as he had hoped. In 2022, he did manage to min-cash the WSOP Main Event for $15,000, a highlight in his poker career, but he has struggled to convert other opportunities, especially at 888poker live events.
His personal frustration is apparent as he reflects on his poker tournament journey. Despite attending nearly every 888poker event in 2023 and vlogging his experiences, a deep run that he could feature on his YouTube channel has remained elusive. This “monkey on his back” is something he hopes to shake off soon.
The Miracle at UKPL Manchester
Though Eastwood’s own poker run in Manchester didn’t materialize, he witnessed an incredible story that reignited his belief in poker miracles. A player named Jamie ‘Zild’ Heckle, an online qualifier who had never played in a live tournament before, became the star of the event. His story is a true fairytale run.
Jamie, under the online alias ‘Zild’, started his journey in a freeroll hosted by 888poker Stream Teamer Josh Manley. After cashing for $12, he used this small prize to win a satellite entry to the £560 UKPL Main Event in Manchester. What followed was nothing short of extraordinary.
Zild’s Miracle Run
Zild’s first live tournament experience was filled with improbable turns of fate. At one point, he was down to 5 big blinds and about to post his big blind and ante when the floor moved him to another table. Almost immediately, he doubled up and continued to fight on. This remarkable run saw him steadily climb through the ranks, overcoming short stacks and finding key doubles along the way.
Zild ultimately reached the final table, where he played for the £30,000 top prize. His run was full of exciting moments, including multiple big hands and the constant feeling of a miracle unfolding. Unfortunately, Zild’s journey came to an end when he was eliminated in 3rd place with pocket nines against Jamie Geraghty’s jacks. Still, the £16,170 prize for third place was an incredible feat, considering this was Zild’s first live tournament.
The Bigger Picture
While Eastwood may have experienced yet another disappointing result in this event, he takes comfort and inspiration from Zild’s incredible story. It’s a reminder that anything can happen in poker—a small freeroll win can lead to a life-changing run, and it can all happen in the blink of an eye.
Eastwood reflects on his own journey and the possibility that maybe he too just needs his own little miracle to finally achieve a deep run in poker. For now, he continues to vlogger, share his experiences, and hope for his own breakthrough in future tournaments. After all, as Zild’s story proves, anything is possible in the world of poker.
