The Women’s Poker Association (WPA) has unveiled the creation of a new International Board Division, aiming to enhance the organization’s global influence and better represent female poker players worldwide. This strategic move is designed to extend the WPA’s reach and advocacy for women in poker across international borders.
New Appointments: As part of this initiative, the WPA has appointed Ivonne Montealegre as Vice President of the International Division and Tatiana Fox as the Advocate Program Leader for the new division.
-
Ivonne Montealegre brings a wealth of experience from the online-gaming industry in Malta, where she has been involved in various projects, including her role as the founder and host of the Malta Poker Festival.
-
Tatiana Fox, hailing from Australia, is a seasoned poker player and organizer with significant global experience. Fox previously served as a WPA North America board member before taking on her new international responsibilities.
Both Montealegre and Fox are committed to expanding the WPA’s global presence, with plans to recruit additional prominent members for the board to further the organization’s goals. They also emphasized the importance of elevating and celebrating women in poker, regardless of geographic location.
Upcoming Events: The launch of the international division comes at a perfect time with the upcoming 2023 Malta Poker Festival, which kicks off on April 24. To celebrate the new division, the WPA will host a special event on April 27 as part of the festival, featuring a “Purple Party” happy hour and meet-and-greet gathering. Additionally, the festival will host a “Ladies First” poker tournament on April 29, emphasizing the WPA’s commitment to supporting women in the poker community.
This development is expected to bring more attention to the women’s poker movement globally and foster a more inclusive environment for female players in the competitive world of poker.
